5 Reasons to Book an Engagement Photographer

Engagements, Oxfordshire

If you are asking this question, you are probably newly engaged and starting to plan your wedding day.  You may still be looking for a photographer and the topic of engagement shoots keeps cropping up.  Perhaps you have not considered an engagement shoot before and are not really sure why you need one or what the benefits might be.  Well if this is you, I am here to help! I have listed my top 5 reasons to book an engagement photographer before your special day.  I hope this post helps you consider and maybe even book an engagement shoot!

1.  It’s great for invites, save the date cards and engagement albums.

An engagement shoot is a fantastic was to create something really unique with your invites or save the date cards. It is a great way of creating something personal for your guests, and it will no doubt sit on your parents and grand parents mantel piece for many months to come.

2.  It’s a great way to get to know your wedding photographer.

Your wedding is one of the most special days of your life, so you don’t want to spend the majority of it being followed around and photographed by a complete stranger.  I always like to spend some time getting to know my couples before the big day, and an engagement shoot is a great way of doing this.  I love to find out about all about you: how you met, how you proposed, your plans for the big day, your favourite film, and lots more.  This allows me to tell your story in a way that it personal to you.  It also allows me to show you how great my photos are 🙂

3.  It’s a great way to get relaxed and practice in front of the camera.

An engagement shoot gives you the perfect opportunity to get relaxed in front of the camera, getting rid of those pre wedding nerves.  A lot of my couples start the engagement shoot thinking it is going to be awkward and uncomfortable.  All of them end up saying how much fun it was and how relaxed they were in front of the camera!

4.  Its’ a great excuse to have a professional photoshoot!

Some things call for a proper celebration, and an engagement is definitely one of them! These days, most of the photos we have of ourselves come from our phone camera, but this is one occasion when you deserve more than a just a selfie! An engagement shoot is a great excuse to dress up (or not if that is your preference!) and have your photo taken by a professional.

5.  It’s fun!

No doubt things have been pretty hectic and stressful over the past few months with planning your wedding.  Maybe you have had to deal with postponements since the pandemic.  An engagement shoot is a great chance for you to treat yourself by hanging out together without the pressure of worrying about the guests or the bridal party, or when dinner is served.   Even better, you will get some photos at the end that you can hang on the wall, share with your family or even use for wedding invitations and save the date cards!
